Montana - Safe

Montana has physical security for the physical infrastructure and the computers in the state. There is relatively little hacking taking place in the state, and the most prominent rogue servers appear to be located near Bozeman on Charter's Internet service. Montana has a software infrastructure that is vulnerable to attacks from sophisticated hackers located elsewhere in the country. This is likely due to the low priority that the telecom industry gives to security updates in rural areas.

Secure Montana's economy and cyberinfrastructure, by contributing to grassroots efforts to upgrade security and educate users. Take action to secure Montana's computers.

Secure Internet

To find a safe network in Montana, please check the networks that you use for secured DNS. Wait for the green-light before you use the network for sensitive data.

Intrepid Net Computing checked some public networks and found the following networks to be secure:

  • Dillon, Sweetwater Coffee on E Bannack St.
  • Bozeman, Starbucks on 19th Ave.
  • Missoula, Starbucks on Brooks St.
  • Butte, Starbucks on Harrison Ave.
